Dress Attire Guidelines

The dress attire guidelines are intended to give parents and students parameters to guide them in selecting outfits—you, as the parent, are the best guide for your child. A good first impression starts with clothing that will help build their confidence in new social situations. Dressing for the occasion is a sign of respect to your host and the other guests.

Ladies

  • Dresses should be modest in length.

  • Shoulders should be covered with a cap sleeve or longer. Please, no strapless dresses or spaghetti straps. A cardigan to cover the shoulders is a good solution.

  • Please, no visible undergarments (bra straps or tank tops).

  • Girls may wear shorts under their skirts; however, please make sure shorts are not visible when their arms are raised for dancing.

  • The neckline of the dress should be modest.

  • The dress covers the back, and the mid-section is fully covered when their arms are raised for dancing. Please, no two-piece dresses, cutouts, or tops where the midriff is showing.

  • Shoes must have a strap or fit securely on her foot while dancing. Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended. Flip-flops and sandals are not recommended. A heel is permitted; please no more than 3 inches.

  • No athletic shoes or Western boots.

Gentlemen

  • A suit jacket or sports coat.

  • Khaki slacks or dress pants worn with a belt. No jeans.

  • Long sleeve button-down dress shirt.

  • A long tie—please use this time to teach your son how to tie a tie.

  • Shirts must be tucked in.

  • Dress socks. No athletic socks.

  • Leather dress shoes and loafer style.

  • No athletic shoes or Western boots.
